SCC gathered at ITE Tampines to take on a Gaulois side residing in last place on the table. No danger of complacency though - the last time we played the bottom team on the table we barely got away with a draw.
Its quite easy to descirbe the first half of this match - wave after wave of SCC attacks repelled by a combination of resolute defending, good goalkeeping and wayward finishing. I think the French had the ball in our half 3 times.
It could have been 5 or 6-0 very easily but it was really starting to look like one of those days for us, particuarly after Tommy's clearance off the French goal line. Not his fault though, having dived to header the ball at the far post he was lying on the floor about 3m out when the goalkeeper's parry fell at the feet of JP. Having wisely decided to stay as low as possible we would have been stunned when the ball hit him in the side and floated over the top of the net! The sight of the ref trying to control his laughter said it all.
Hutch decided to take matters into his own hands (possibly a result of the rough treatment dished out to him) and rose highest to meet Tommy's corner 5 minutes before halftime, heading the ball in to give us a 1-0 lead. However, on a rare French attack just before half time, a cross shot went over the top of Shyam and hit the far post, falling into the mud in the six-yard box. Thankfully Scotty Wells was there to clean up and it was 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw more of the same, with Tommy and Shane combining to set up Hutch for his second 10 minutes into the half. The game somewhat degenerated at that point - a series of rough tackles saw to that and poor Shane seemed to be the target almost everytime. He was quickly subbed for Dom for his safety more than anything else, and Hutch won a penalty which Nahar converted.
Nahar made it 4 almost immediately afterwards after a quality delivery from Tommy, who had made a great run doen the right hand channel. The French got one goal back just before the end of the game, which was a shame considering the defense was solid all match.
For MOM, the team all played well in their specific roles and the football at times was superb, JP and Mehdi had good games against their French counterparts, the defence as mentioned was solid and effective in distribution, all the midfield worked hard and played good football whilst the front two certainly caused havoc at times and both scored 2 well deserved goals, but my vote goes to Tommy who was at the heart of everything good about the SCC today. This is our 11th different MOM this season, which shows the quality and depth of our squad. One more game until the Xmas break, against the Vikings which will be a tough one indeed.

A game that is always known to be a difficult one vs the Hotspurs and this was no different. A 3 -nil scoreline suggests the SCC had a comfortable win...far from it!!!
The major reasons for this was 1) the physical approach of the Hotspurs players upset the flow of the SCC possession and this was not helped when the officials found it difficult to punish the fouls that were taking place during the first 20 mins of the game which allowed the challenges to carry on further especially in the cramped midfield with Hotspurs playing one up front. This then led to the SCC to lose their cool and give away silly fouls in silly areas to allow the Hotspurs alot of freekicks in dangerous areas. It was a good job Angelov was in good form with some immense saves to keep the SCC in the game.
As time went on, the Hotspurs could not capatilise on their chances and the SCC countered very swiftly to score the first goal of the game and breathe a sigh of relief. The half team talk consisted of achieving composure on the ball and to not get involved by giving silly fouls in dangerous areas. The SCC certainly dominated the second half and this allowed better chances from the yellow men and led to a well struck shot from Hutch that caught a defelction en route and nestled in the corner. The game was certainly a lively affair and tackles flying in from both teams added to this. The SCC third goal come from the sprightly Shane adding value on the left side and took possession of the ball on the edge of the box, cut onto his right foot and struck well to complete the scoring but then celebrated in the most crazy way with some mad dance!!!
Thankfully the SCC came through this difficult game for the full 3 points which after a below par performance shows the quality of the squad to still achieve results when under pressure and not playing well. The MOM for the SCC goes to Scotty Wells for a organised performance and good decisions being made when under pressure... an experienced performance from our centre back.

SCC come back to take the three points!!
A game we knew would be a difficult one after the way Hibs have been attaining results this season and proving that they are a worthy Cosmoleague team. The SCC dominated preceding s and kept the ball fairly well, created chances and dealt with any Hibs attacks but after 15 mins of the game Hibs actually took the lead from an innocent ball over the top that was not dealt with by our keeper and fumbled which seen Bastian (I think) slot in to give a shock lead to the men in yellow. The Hibs were doing well by working very hard, being competitive in tackles and playing some tidy football at times, however, the SCC managed to wrestle the game back by Hutch causing all kinds of problems and should have been awarded a definite penalty which was not awarded but soon after he got his reward by slotting a lovely finish after being put through on the right side. Game on.
Just before half time, we managed to secure another goal by hutch which was created after a defensive error from Hibs, caused by Danny T working hard to close possession down in the opponents’ area and the ball broke nicely for hutch was struck a wicked first time shot from 15 yds, giving the keeper no chance.
The game was still in the balance and the SCC knew they needed to get the next goal to make sure of the match. The game remained fairly open with SCC probing attack after attack but the Hibs also creating space for themselves to get forward and compete and came fairly close a few times but for some good covering defending by the SCC. Chances came and went for the SCC with headers by Monaghan and Bowden failing to hit the target which should have been goals. So not long after, Hutch showed the lads how to hit the target with an header and finally get his hat-trick to make this game safe and comfortable for the SCC. Changes were made to allow fresh legs come on and add value to the SCC team and a penalty was awarded for a push on Mehdi for Mr Turner to retrieve the ball (never seen him run so fast for it) to make sure he took the penalty and indeed converted to make it 4 – 1. Job done but kudos to Hibs for a good solid game. Well done to all.
My man of the match this week goes to Hutcheon who scored 3 good goals, was a constant threat all afternoon for the Hibs defenders and linked our play very well.

SCC finally….. stroll to victory!!
Geisslink - Ong - Wells - Goerojo - Alonso - Lane - Monaghan - Souiade - Anderson - Daud - McCarvel - Hutcheon - Turner - Wilson - Gulston - Tan - Neubronner
This fixture is always one that excites the players from both teams as its always competitive and classed as a derby!! The match itself during the first half was dire to be honest, due to the following reasons; i) Germans came to defend and hope for one on the counter, ii) the SCC lacked their usual penetration and urgency when in possession. The SCC seemed lethargic in their final third play and seemed content keeping the ball to no conclusion. A goal did get created by a cross into the box for Nahar Daud to finish very well indeed to finally settle the SCC, however, a fast counter seen the Germans claw a goal back to make it 1-1 at the half time break.
The second half seen SCC remain in control although Germans definitely got back into the game more than the first half down to their counter attacking which seen the SCC keeper and defenders having to work harder to keep the ball out and with a bit of luck, it did!! The change in the game happened when the SCC got a corner (not sure what happened as the Germans was arguing why it was given) and Monaghan headed in a rare goal to take the advantage. From then on in, SCC looked far more dangerous and the introduction of Hutcheon certainly raised the intensity of our play and soon after Mehdi smashed home a sweet left foot strike to take the game completely away from the Germans.
The SCC reshuffled their personnel with the likes of Simon Tan, young Shane, Adam Bowden and Henry coming on the field for Monaghan, Alonso, Daud and McCarvel (whom managed to capitalize on a defending error to make it 4 – 1, before coming off).
The fresh legs of the SCC took control and managed to secure another two goals, both from ‘Henry ‘Thai Policeman’ Turner who smashed a shot from 20 yds into the net whilst his second came from good play on the right for him to smash home from 6 yds. IN the end it was very comfortable for the SCC but Germans probably deserved more for their efforts.
The MOM of the SCC goes to Scott Wells this week for his composure on the ball in defense his and organizing skills which adds mass value to the team.

SCC vs Ubin (Won 5 - 2)

Rogers
Townsend
Neubronner
Hutcheon

This fixture last year seen an SCC team lose a 3 nil advantage to evetually draw the match against a spirited Ubin side so the SCC definitely had the respect for the opposition going into this match.
The game began at a frantic pace especially from the SCC point of view.... possession was non-existent, composure was missing and the shape was chaotic. The Ubin team was making it difficult for the SCC team by working hard to pressure the ball and make a challenge therefore, limiting the SCC to create any real chances to mention. The ubin side was looking to get in behind the SCC defense by hitting long balls with runners from deep working on the second ball which was causing some problems for the men in yellow, only for last ditch defending or good ‘covering’ from Angelov in the sticks.
The SCC finally got off the mark with a cross from the left only to see hutch mis-kick his first attempt, fall over, react faster than all and finally slot his second attempt into the corner. This settled the team massively and we began to improve slightly in terms of creating chances and exploiting space with Danny T causing havoc on the right side by getting past his man time after time only to be upended most of the time. Once again he beat his man, rode the challenge and then pick out Hutch in the box who made no mistake and slotted for his second goal of the day. HALF TIME 2 - 0.
The half time talk consisted of the need to improve by defending better, keep the ball more and to utilise the space in the wide areas otherwise changes would be made given the quality we had on the bench!
The second period seen Ubin having the better of the play with SCC looking dangerous on the counter but with no end product and mid way through the half actually seen Ubin get a goal to make it 2-1 and make the SCC think...not again!!! However, an SCC move that started with Dom on the right side who played in Hutch down the channel whom ran toward the byline, cut back to Henry at the far post who laid off to the onrushing Dom who slotted into the corner to ease any SCC’s nerves..a good goal indeed. Soon after, the game become more expansive due to a combination of tired legs and the new subs on the field looking to impress which created more goal opportunities for both teams.
The next goal for the SCC seen a good move down the left with Henry and David combining well, leading to a well struck shot from the french man Alonso to make it comfortable with a 4 - 1 scoreline. Soon after young JD came on the field and chased down a long ball which caused a mis-understanding between the Ubin defender and GK and allow JD tap in from 5 yds.......game over....well it wasn’t...the Ubin finished a good move with a screamer to make the result 5 - 2. Ubin played well in terms of working hard as a team, being physical but in a positive way (the way football should be allowed to be played) and making life difficult for an SCC team that found it hard to sustain their normal rhythm of play.
Individual performances from the SCC were not the best although take nothing away from the MOM of the SCC for the match who fully deserved it and stood out by producing a good performance with his reading of the game, distribution and superb timing of his tackling; Adam Bowden.

Job Done with room for improvement for SCC!!
SCC returned to Tampines for their match against the Lions, a side known to give us trouble in the past. Owen had come down midweek to personally supervise the removal of the bees nest that cut short our game last week, but the pitch hadn't been touched and was very long in certain parts, which was to have an effect on the game later on.
We had a few players MIA or injured but such is the quality of the squad these days that we were able to call on the likes of Tommy and Adam to line up in a back 4. Owen was recalled back into midfield after starting last week on the bench, as was Nahar upfront.
The game began as a very open affair, the Lions started with a central midfield three that seemed determined to play football - it was a nice change for us to not face a team with 9 or more players behind the ball. The game was very end to end but there were no real chances from either side - the Lions had a half chance when their unmarked forward was first to a good free kick played into the area but he didnt get enough on it and Nahar and Hutch were making space upfront but our final ball in and around the area wasn't good enough.
Our first goal came for a speculative long ball. The Lions keeper came off his line but was caught short by the ball slowing down in the long grass and Hutch was in a position to pounce, rounding him and putting the ball in the back of the net. Nahar nearly did the same a couple of minutes later, but a combination of him slipping and a covering defender saw the ball trickling past the wrong side of the post.
As I personally missed a few balls over the top to due to them holding up more than expected, I can sympathise with the keeper. Mehdi made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time when he collected a throw in on the right wing, skipped past a defender and shot through a body of players into the bottom corner - a big goal in the context of the game.
The second half began and the Lions switched to a front two, opening up the centre of midfield even further which allowed both teams to run at each others defense. The Lions streamed forward 15 mins in and a tangle between the Lions forward and Kian Ann saw the ball fall to Adam, whose clearance caught Kelso under the ball. He could only flick it on and Hutch ran onto it and dispatched the ball for his 2nd goal of the game. The Lions got one back soon after we gave them too much time and space to run at the defense, but we got our fourth goal to seal off the game with around 20 mins left when JP sent in a good cross from the left that Nahar volleyed in.
Scribe - Shyam Young
A good win, and special mention should be made of the back four who were ALL outstanding throughout the entire game. JP was industrious and creative as always and Nahar forever looking sharp finding space time and again but lacking the finishing touch. The MOM was a close call between JP, Adam and Rogers but it goes to Mehdi for a very composed performance, never giving the ball away in a tightly packed midfield and scoring a decisive goal...class all round!!!
