SCC gathered at ITE Tampines to take on a Gaulois side residing in last place on the table. No danger of complacency though - the last time we played the bottom team on the table we barely got away with a draw.
Its quite easy to descirbe the first half of this match - wave after wave of SCC attacks repelled by a combination of resolute defending, good goalkeeping and wayward finishing. I think the French had the ball in our half 3 times.
It could have been 5 or 6-0 very easily but it was really starting to look like one of those days for us, particuarly after Tommy's clearance off the French goal line. Not his fault though, having dived to header the ball at the far post he was lying on the floor about 3m out when the goalkeeper's parry fell at the feet of JP. Having wisely decided to stay as low as possible we would have been stunned when the ball hit him in the side and floated over the top of the net! The sight of the ref trying to control his laughter said it all.
Hutch decided to take matters into his own hands (possibly a result of the rough treatment dished out to him) and rose highest to meet Tommy's corner 5 minutes before halftime, heading the ball in to give us a 1-0 lead. However, on a rare French attack just before half time, a cross shot went over the top of Shyam and hit the far post, falling into the mud in the six-yard box. Thankfully Scotty Wells was there to clean up and it was 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw more of the same, with Tommy and Shane combining to set up Hutch for his second 10 minutes into the half. The game somewhat degenerated at that point - a series of rough tackles saw to that and poor Shane seemed to be the target almost everytime. He was quickly subbed for Dom for his safety more than anything else, and Hutch won a penalty which Nahar converted.
Nahar made it 4 almost immediately afterwards after a quality delivery from Tommy, who had made a great run doen the right hand channel. The French got one goal back just before the end of the game, which was a shame considering the defense was solid all match.
For MOM, the team all played well in their specific roles and the football at times was superb, JP and Mehdi had good games against their French counterparts, the defence as mentioned was solid and effective in distribution, all the midfield worked hard and played good football whilst the front two certainly caused havoc at times and both scored 2 well deserved goals, but my vote goes to Tommy who was at the heart of everything good about the SCC today. This is our 11th different MOM this season, which shows the quality and depth of our squad. One more game until the Xmas break, against the Vikings which will be a tough one indeed.

A game that is always known to be a difficult one vs the Hotspurs and this was no different. A 3 -nil scoreline suggests the SCC had a comfortable win...far from it!!!
The major reasons for this was 1) the physical approach of the Hotspurs players upset the flow of the SCC possession and this was not helped when the officials found it difficult to punish the fouls that were taking place during the first 20 mins of the game which allowed the challenges to carry on further especially in the cramped midfield with Hotspurs playing one up front. This then led to the SCC to lose their cool and give away silly fouls in silly areas to allow the Hotspurs alot of freekicks in dangerous areas. It was a good job Angelov was in good form with some immense saves to keep the SCC in the game.
As time went on, the Hotspurs could not capatilise on their chances and the SCC countered very swiftly to score the first goal of the game and breathe a sigh of relief. The half team talk consisted of achieving composure on the ball and to not get involved by giving silly fouls in dangerous areas. The SCC certainly dominated the second half and this allowed better chances from the yellow men and led to a well struck shot from Hutch that caught a defelction en route and nestled in the corner. The game was certainly a lively affair and tackles flying in from both teams added to this. The SCC third goal come from the sprightly Shane adding value on the left side and took possession of the ball on the edge of the box, cut onto his right foot and struck well to complete the scoring but then celebrated in the most crazy way with some mad dance!!!
Thankfully the SCC came through this difficult game for the full 3 points which after a below par performance shows the quality of the squad to still achieve results when under pressure and not playing well. The MOM for the SCC goes to Scotty Wells for a organised performance and good decisions being made when under pressure... an experienced performance from our centre back.
